CWS Hired by Texas Charter School System to Install Security Window Film in 66 Buildings
HOUSTON – The largest charter school system in Texas has hired Commercial Window Shield for a safety and security window film installation project to protect its students and employees against armed attacks.
The project, for Harmony Public Schools, involves the installation of shatter resistant 8-mil security film with a wet-glaze attachment system on all perimeter windows and doors up to a height of seven feet in 66 buildings. In total, Commercial Window Shield will be installing the security window film on more than 180,000 sq. ft. of glass in buildings in Harmony’s seven districts scattered over all major areas in Texas. The school system, which has an enrollment of nearly 42,000 students, is renowned for its science, technology, engineering and math curriculums.
Funding for the project comes from the state after it passed legislation for security upgrades in all public school systems. The legislation was in response to the May 24, 2022 attack by a lone gunman at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde that left 19 students and two teachers dead. The gunman entered the building through a door after firing a gun into windows on the west side of the building, shattering the glass.
Coordination plans for the massive project between Commercial Window Shield and Harmony officials are in progress. Installation of the security window film is scheduled to begin in September with a completion target date of Dec. 31.
Commercial Window Shield has been at the forefront of the nation’s school security movement over the past decade. Currently, the company is installing 33,000 sq. ft. of security and safety film in 25 buildings at Galena Park ISD in suburban Houston and 45,000 sq. ft. of security film at South San Antonio ISD.
Including this project, the company has protected the glass in more than 420 school buildings in 12 states.
Elsewhere, the company has completed safety and security film installation projects at Geneva, Minooka and Lake Zurich school districts in suburban Chicago; Calvert, St. Mary’s and Carroll County [Md.] Public Schools; Mechanicsburg and Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Bellmore and Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; Hartford, Glastonbury and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut; Norfolk and Henry County in Virginia; Beaverton, Ore.; Comanche Public Schools, Comanche, Okla.; Lansdale, Pa.; and Katy, Rockwell and San Antonio school districts in Texas.
With more than 40 years of experience, Commercial Window Shield is one of the nation’s leading security and solar control window film installers. Among its many projects, the company has protected windows at the U.S. Capitol, FBI headquarters, Pentagon, all House of Representative buildings, O’Hare International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the Willis Tower [former Sears Tower], Denver Mint, Grand Central Terminal and the George R.
